Residents in Mannar claimed that history was being rewritten in
Sellavathurai. An ancient structure known as Aliranee Palace had been
renamed as ‘Doric House’ – the mansion where the first British Governor
stayed. They claimed that the signboard advertising it as a Governor’s
residence was false. However when The Sunday Leader visited the site
they found that the structure, made of brick, looked quite modern.
Photos show the structure, with a signboard advertising it as ‘Doric
House’. A military officer was posted at the building as well.
