Dear Mr.Sugumar/ Ms.Sarumathy.
Progress Report of Papamottai GTMS School Citizen’s Rights awareness Programme.
As scheduled we conducted the Sixth Awareness Programme at Manthai West AGA division at Papamottai GTMS School on 29/04/12 at 9 a.m to 4.p.m around 31 participants from seven villages attended. Among them WRDS, RDS, Religious institution members ,Released Cadres, Disabled people, Widows and resettled people from India .
The Three resource personal conducted the Fundamental Rights, Children & Women rights, IDP & Disabled Rights, How to obtain Important Documents such as Birth, Death and Marriage certificates, Register those person who returned from India etc.
There was group discussion, group work, Presentation from group leaders, Question time, and Evolution.
More Disabled people participated & did the presentation. At the end USAID donated T shirt was given. They requested more capacity building training to the young people as they were displaced ten times & underwent severe hardship in Mullaitivu & Kilinochchi.
The request was made on Conflict management, Free legal aid education. Computer literacy, English Language. Lively hood training in Agriculture, Animal husbandry and Women empowerment etc.
Some of them narrated that they had first training on Human Rights, They pointed out that in Mannar, Child abuse, suicide, Family dispute and divorce have increased this was vouched by Resource Lawyers too.
Further they said that there are more vulnerable villages interior where people do not reach this type of capacity building. The Project Coordinator replied that they have planned to conduct more awareness programmes in further remote villages such as Kurai, Sithu vinayagar puram Athimottai, Illupaikadavai, Mullikulam and Sina walayankattu etc.
