Mannar shines in Northern Province

The Mannar Education Zone obtained first place in the number of candidates successful at the GCE (O-L) examination, an analysis of the examination results in the Northern Province has revealed.
One thousand two hundred and sixty six candidates sat the examination of which 970 had passed. Four students obtained nine As. Only six candidates failed all subjects.
The Jaffna education zone, where 3,688 students sat the examination, was placed second. A total of 2,325 candidates had passed the examination while 45 candidates had obtained nine As. Seventy four students had failed all subjects.
In the Vavuniya education zone, where 2,235 candidates sat the examination, was placed third. A total of 1,387 had passed the examination. Twenty one candidates obtained nine As while 47 candidates had failed all subjects.
The Jaffna Islands division has been pushed to the last and 11th place. Seven hundred and six sat the examination and only 278 students were successful. No one obtained nine As. Fifty two candidates had failed all subjects.
